Oedipus knows in Latin as Oedipus Rex. Oedipus was the son off the Laius, the king of Thebes and his wife Jocasta. Laius was warned by an oracle that his fate was to be killed by his son. When Oedipus was born Lauis still believed the oracle so he abandoned his son on a mountain side. Oedipus was found by a shepherd and he was taken to the king of Corinth where he was adopted and raised. When he was grown He learned from the Delphic oracle that he would kill his father and marry his mother. He fled Corinth to escape this fate, believing his foster parents to be his real parents. He ran into Laius he battled and killed. He went on, but as he walked he heard of a sphinx killing people who couldn’t solve her riddle , when Oedipus reached her he was given the same riddle, he solved it and his prize was winning the hand of o widow and the prophecy was made. They were an unlikely pair. While married to the widow he made four (4) children two boys, Polynices and Etecoles and two girls Anthigone and Ismene. When a plague breaks loose in Thebes the only way to get rid of the pollution on the land Oedipus was to tell about the murder on Laius. When Oedipus learned the horrible truth the horror he blinded himself. After learning the horror of what has happened evening being blind he still reign over Thebes until one day he was killed in battle by Ceron,Jocasta’s brother and his sons he was guided by his daughter Antigone.
